WA leading the nation’s post virus spending

June 19, 2020

Western Australia continues to lead the nation in the COVID-19 economic recovery with the strongest spending across the country in early-mid June compared to the same time last year.

Adelaide Timbrell, ANZ research economist believes WA has rapidly shown more growth than any other state.

“Although this doesn’t necessarily mean WA residents are spending the most, it does mean that they’ve recovered the most from COVID-19 related spending disruptions,” said Mr Timbrell.

Western Australian’s are also leading the nation with the highest spend on dining and takeaway in June, with even higher levels than the same time last year.

ANZ data also shows that retail spending may have dipped from its peak in March but consumer confidence was increasing and the levels of spending were still elevated which is driving spending growth nationally.
