First gas offloaded from worlds biggest floating LNG facility

June 12, 2019

An exciting week in the world of LNG for WA as the first gas was offloaded from Shell’s Prelude Floating Liquified Natural Gas facility anchored off Western Australia’s coast line.

Measuring 488m in length and 74m in width, the Prelude FLNG is the world’s largest floating liquefied natural gas platform and the largest offshore floating facility ever built.

A Greenfield’s project that has been 8 years in the making and a world first with the use of floating FLNG technology. This is great news for WA’s economy with Prelude set to produce 3.6 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG.

The Prelude gas field will continue to bolster WA’s resources sector by providing opportunities for other gas fields to be developed which will backfill into Prelude. The Crux field has already entered the FEED phase and the Bratwurst field will be explored later in the year.
