August 20, 2020

WA is the only state in Australia that is expected to see a rise in the number of new home and apartment builds over the next financial year according the Housing Industry Association.

Cath Hart, WA executive director of HIA showed that the latest quarterly report indicated that combined starts on new homes and apartments in WA would increase by 17.7 per cent in 2020-21 to a total of 16,691. She credited the recent stimulus packages providing up to $45,000 in grants for the increase in new builds.

“New home sales data is already showing a dramatic improvement in Western Australia with sales in the two months since the announcement of HomeBuilder and WA’s Building Bonus Grant (June and July 2020) 170.6 per cent higher than the previous two months,” she said.

“HomeBuilder and the Building Bonus will continue to play an important role in supporting jobs across the building industry and generating activity in the wider economy over the short term.”
